The Future of the ISCP: More Than Just Games

If you’ve stepped inside the Illawarra Sports & Community Precinct (ISCP) lately, you know the feeling. It’s the sound of sneakers squeaking on polished wood, the roar of a crowd during a Saturday final, or the buzz of community groups meeting in our halls. You can feel the energy.

But as the Illawarra region continues to grow, so does the demand for high-quality, indoor spaces. Our current facilities have served us well, but to meet the needs of the next generation, we must look ahead. The ISCP isn’t just maintaining what we have—we are ready to grow.

We aren’t just talking about “fixing up” the stadium. We have a Development Application (DA) already approved by Wollongong City Council that will transform the ISCP into a premier regional destination. This is a massive leap forward for local sport, health, and recreation.

What exactly is in the works?

  • Three New Indoor Courts: Currently, our region is facing a shortage of indoor court space. This expansion will add over 10% of the total indoor court capacity required for the entire Wollongong region. That means fewer late-night training sessions for kids and more room for every code to thrive.

  • A Modern Gym & Multi-Function Room: Health is about more than just competitive sport. Our new gym and multi-purpose rooms will provide dedicated space for fitness classes, wellness programs, and local community meetings.

  • The New Home of Netball: We are building dedicated administration offices to support Netball—one of our region’s most popular sports. This includes updated changerooms and modern bathrooms to ensure our athletes have the professional facilities they deserve.

  • The Social Hub (Café & Canteen): Sport is as much about the “hang out” as it is the “hang time.” Our new café and canteen will be a place to grab a high-quality coffee, refuel between games, and socialise. It will even feature a viewing deck where you can watch the outdoor netball action while staying close to the amenities.

  • The Show Court: A brand-new main court with comfortable seating for 500+ spectators. This will allow us to host larger regional tournaments and bring fans closer to the action than ever before.

Building for the People

The best part of this plan? We aren’t starting from scratch. Because of the foresight of our Board and supporters, the blueprints are ready now. We aren’t waiting for ideas; we are waiting for the green light.

With the right funding and community support, we believe these facilities can be delivered in less than two years. This expansion won’t just serve Berkeley; it will turn the Illawarra into a sporting powerhouse that can host major state and national events.

What does this mean?

  • For a young basketballer: It means more court time and better coaching environments. More opportunity to play representative games at “home”.

  • For a local charity: It means a larger, modern hall to host fundraisers that change lives. Plus more opportunities for more groups to use the space at the same time.

  • For a senior: It means a climate-controlled, safe space to stay active and connected with friends during the heat of summer or the rain of winter.

The transition from a “Stadium” to a “Precinct” is a journey we are taking as a community. “All People. All Events. All Here.” isn’t just a slogan; it’s a promise that this space belongs to you.

As we lobby for the funding to make these blueprints a reality, we want to hear from you. Your support and your voice are what will move this project from paper to pavement.
